Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy with you like?
I know finding a therapist can be overwhelming. When we meet together, my hope is that you feel seen and heard from the start. I will hold space for you to show up exactly as you are. I will ask some questions, help to guide you towards thinking about things in new ways, and at times challenge you to move beyond your comfort zone. We will incorporate different tools and techniques into our time together that may help to benefit your overall process, but only when and if it’s right for you. This could look like a guided meditation exercise, writing, reading, or a worksheet. It could be a grounding exercise or something we practice that you can try independently when we aren’t together. I try to make space for silence when needed. I’ll focus on digging into the stories you tell yourself to help you rethink, reprocess, and take action to move toward the life you want.
What kind of approach do you use?
I draw from several types of therapy approaches and tend to use them throughout my time with clients. What they all share is a focus on creating a safe space, cultivating a solid relationship with you, and acknowledging and building on your strengths. I try to make our time as comfortable as I can.
Specific approaches I use often include:
Strengths-based
Motivational Interviewing
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Mindfulness & Meditation
Family Systems
Narrative Therapy
What is your fee? Do you accept insurance?
How quickly will you respond to me?
I’ll do my best to get back to you within 2 business days. It’s important for you to know that I do not offer emergency or 24 hour services. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or visit your local crisis center.
Do you do online therapy? What about in-person?
Yes! I am currently offering online therapy and some limited in-person sessions! Online therapy is a very convenient way for you to experience counseling from the comfort of your own home or office. It offers great flexibility for busy professionals, parents, teens, and those who have difficulty leaving the house. I’ve found most clients end up preferring the convenience of online therapy. I use a HIPAA compliant video platform and offer security and privacy. I am able to see online clients in CO, VA, and NC. BUT, if that’s not your thing, I do have a limited amount of in-person sessions in my office in Asheville, NC.
OK, I think I’m ready. Now what?
I’d love to chat with you! The first step is setting up a free phone consultation and the best way to do that is by sending an email or going to my contact page. Once we set up a consultation, I’ll give you a call. Then, we’ll spend a few minutes talking about what you’re looking for, see if I’m a good fit for your needs, and talk about logistics like scheduling.
If we decide to move forward and schedule an appointment, you’ll receive paperwork from me to fill out prior to our time together. At our first appointment, we’ll spend a few minutes reviewing your rights and important legal information and then we’ll get started.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask that you provide 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a scheduled appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged the entire session fee.
